The role of a funeral home is more than the preparation of a deceased person. Bereavement care and handling the needs of those left to mourn the death of a loved one is an integral part of the service provided by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. It is with this thought in mind that W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home acquired the Christian Science Society and Reading Room facility at 262 Athabasca St. E., January 15th, 1999 in Moose Jaw. The location of this building and the functional use of the complex will assist us in our many programs before, during and after difficult situations involving the community in the area of death and grief. Its proximity to the Funeral Home and Chapel makes the building easily accessible. The need has always been there for us as funeral professionals to assist families walk through their grief. Since introducing Della Ferguson as our Family Continued Care Coordinator to the community we have seen the need to develop a family resource facility. "Being locally owned and involved in the community we have always striven to assist and improve the way we help families we have been honoured to serve as well as all people in our community who are going through a traumatic experience in their lives" says Don Jones , third generation and president of W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. " When the community supports your business, you acknowledge that support in any meaningful way you can. We saw a need and an opportunity to help people in need as well as community groups in Moose Jaw" The Family Resource Centre accommodates a office for our Continued Care coordinator. Many grief support groups that have developed over the years will use this facility for their time together. We offer non-profit counseling and support groups the use this facility. The Resource Centre allows the Funeral Home to enhance its bereavement programming; allowing individuals to come and use our library of videos, or research books or other materials in our centre and will be available at no charge to care givers, clergy and people who are bereaving. With the many books, audio and visual tapes available we invite teachers to consider bringing their students to the Centre. Through the years, W. J. Jones & Son has offered seminars and gatherings for clergy, health care professionals and the community. With this facility, we will be able to accommodate our community sponsored programs for care givers. "Often there is no avenue to express grief. We want to offer that avenue for the healing process to begin" said Della Ferguson, Continued Care Coordinator. "The idea of a family centre, much like your own living room, away from the funeral home with a library, television, coffee and someone who cares we trust will be appreciated." |
