Gladys
Ivy Bussey, late of Regina, formerly of Moose Jaw, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving
family on January 27 at the Pasqua
Hospital
in
Regina
after a thirteen year battle with cancer.
Gladys was predeceased by her husband Sydney, brother Herb
Harrison, sister Betsy Harrison (in infancy) and daughter Mary
Bussey (in infancy). Gladys is survived by her children: son
Douglas of Regina and granddaughter, Lynnanne Beverly; son Raymond
(Jill) of Calgary; daughter, Barbara (Greg) Engel of Regina,
grandson Jonathon, twin granddaughters, Kerri-Lyn (John) Errington
of St Albert, Alberta and Sheri-Lyn (Mike) Gauthier of Regina and
great-grandchildren, Braedon and Kaslyn; daughter Vicki (Bill)
Mather of Edmonton, grandsons Dustin Lyall, Craig Lyall and
great-granddaughter Aletha and grandson James Mather. Gladys was
born and attended school in
Moose Jaw. During her young adult years she played ball
with the Moose Jaw Royals, touring to the 1939 World’s Fair to
play in a ladies ball tournament, finishing second to the team
coached by Babe Ruth. She married Syd Bussey and raised four
children in Moose Jaw. Gladys and Syd were very active with young
people at Trinity
United
Church
and in scouting. Gladys spent 35 years
committed to the Boy Scout movement in Saskatchewan, earning the Silver Acorn Award, one of
Scouting’s highest honors. Syd and Gladys moved with their
family to the Regina
area in 1963, and then to Herbert in 1967
where they lived until returning to Moose Jaw
for retirement. The
Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones and Son Funeral
Chapel, 106
Athabasca Street East,
Moose
Jaw
on Thursday, January 31 at
1:30 PM.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday evening
7-9 PM
at the
funeral home.
Pastor Terry Murphy to officiate. Interment will follow at
Rosedale Cemetery. Those so wishing may make a donation in Gladys’ memory to
the Palliative Care Unit, Pasqua
Hospital,
4101 Dewdney Avenue,
Regina,
S4T 1L5. In living memory of Gladys, a tree will be
planted in Wakamow
