ELIZABETH ABDOU

Elizabeth Abdou passed away at 88 years of age on May 23, 2002 at The Union Hospital in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Elizabeth was born on February 12, 1914 in Spring Valley, Saskatchewan. She is predeceased by her mother and father (Peter and Katherine Runzer), infant grandson (Frank Jeffery Abdou), her brothers (Ben, Frank, Joe, and Pete Runzer), her sisters (Eva, Mary, Johanna) and is survived by her one sister Katherine Montgomery of Moose Jaw.  Elizabeth married Frank Abdou of Crane Valley in 1938 and was widowed in 1952. Her strength of character is witnessed by how hard she worked to raise her two children on her own. Elizabeth will be sorely missed by her two children, Frances (Martin) Dyck of Esterhazy and Frank (Johnna)Abdou of Moose Jaw, as well as her six grandchildren (Robert Dyck, Roberta Dyck, Sandra Dyck, Michael Dyck, Angela Abdou, and Justin Abdou).  She was also the proud great-grandmother of nine. Elizabeth’s passions were gardening and cooking, and anyone who knew her will attest to her excellence at both.  She fondly remembered cooking for farm hands in her younger life, making ethnic food for her husband while he was alive, and concocting a variety of treats for her children and grandchildren throughout her life.  Her perogie, cabbage roll, bread, and borscht recipes will live on through her grandchildren who will do their best to replicate her magic in the kitchen. Elizabeth will mostly be remembered for her remarkable generosity and selflessness.  Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Elizabeth’s life at W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at 10:30 am with interment to follow at the CraneValley Cemetery.  Deacon Bob Williston will officiate.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Saskatchewan Lung Association, 1231 8th Street East, Saskatoon, S7H 0S5, would be appreciated.  In living memory of Elizabeth, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Home.
