RICK MOORE

May 20, 1962 - March 31, 2008

Rick's mother Lois, brother-in-law Gilles and old buddy Kent are pleased to announce that Rick has come to join them for a visit. Followed by a round of golf and a few drinks with Gilles and a quick game of hockey with Kent, Rick will join his mom to tell her all about his life and the many successes he has enjoyed since they were last together.  Rick enjoyed many memories with his father Bob, brother Mike and sisters Cary, Shannon and Wendy along with their partners and children. A highlight from childhood for Rick was of the times when he and his family spent part of their summer vacation at Baker's Inn at Waskesiu National Park. He also remembers, with affection, hanging out with the Henday Bay Bunch along with the Portage La Prairie crew. Rick also will tell his mother of the fine people that he came to know in his in-laws Rino and Louise, Chuck and his wife along with their children, grandson and other nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed a few rounds of golf with the crew from the Edmunston Golf Club. Rick was fortunate enough over the years to enjoy the love and support of his extended family Fred and Bev, Jim, as well as Earl and Gladys and all of his cousins. Rick would also want to make special mention of his grandmother Margarita as well as his God-parents Wayne and Lynn. In visiting with his mother, Rick would absolutely want to tell her about the fun times (but not all) that he had with his hockey team - The Bullets. Over the years they enjoyed many games together not to mention a bevy or two. Rick was fortunate enough to work in a field that he loved. Rick's work took him far and wide - including a trip to the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia to bring Canadians up-to-date news on their athletes. While Rick may have felt a sense of appreciation and of family in working with the staff from The Times Herald, the feeling was mutual as it was his peers who successfully nominated him for the Ovation Award which recognizes excellence in writing. In catching up with his mom after all of these years, Rick would be most proud of sharing with her his good fortune in having met Denise and of having married the love of his life on August 14, 1999. Since then, they created a wonderful life together full of love, laughter and challenges - some of which were character builders and some of which were life-altering. Rick is certain to have many stories to share with his mother of his time spent with Denise - enough stories to keep them visiting for some time to come. Please join Denise and all those who are proud to be part of Rick’s family and friends in celebrating his life on Saturday April 5, 2008 at 1:30 pm at the Ned Andreoni Gym at Vanier Collegiate, 324 MacDonald St.W.  For those so wishing, memorials in Rick’s memory may be made to Homecare, c/o the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, 455 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, S6H 1H3, or the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St.W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2.  In living memory of Rick, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Home.

Jim Nadon - Moose Jaw, SK: Rick was a dedicated man who did things with integrity and pride. I always enjoyed our visits and the odd golf game we shared. He was very knowledgeable and everyone thoroughly enjoyed his articles. My thoughts and prayers are with Denise; and Rick's family. Moose Jaw has lost a legend and friend!!

Linda Hawke - Regina, SK: Rick has a beautiful soul and a great sense of humor.  He loved Denise, his work and his community.  The world is a better place because he was in it. I wish I'd known you better, dear Rick.  My thoughts and my prayers are with his family.

Jodi Erickson - Moose Jaw, SK: Denise my thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of loss.  Rick was a wonderful man and was so friendly you would never walk past his desk without getting and smile and a how are you today from him.  He will be greatly missed.

Tighe Family - Moose Jaw, SK: Rick was a friend who always wanted to know how the kids were doing and where they were at. We will miss the annual Xmas list of his that I'm sure all who knew Rick would check and see if they were mentioned. Our hearts go out to the family.

Darlene Geib - Moose Jaw, SK: I had the opportunity to meet Rick through the sports world, mainly the M J Warriors, as well as many different events that he attended at the Heritage Inn. Rick was the most positive person I ever meet, no matter the situation, good or bad, he always in his mind made it good. He will be missed greatly in the community, to Rick's family.. may God give you the strength to carry on and cherish his life. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this very sad time.

Fred and Bev Hill - Regina SK: Denise - We will be with you for the Celebration of Life on Saturday, and what a life it was! We will always have memories of the happy times. Some that come to mind are Waskesiu, Tony Romas, and the family reunions.

Craig Henry - Regina, SK.: Hi Denise. I met Rick briefly many, many years ago, and I have to say that the stories I have been reading leave a very vivid impression of a man who lived his life to the fullest. I am so sorry for your loss, but I have to say that Rick's obituary in the paper today was one of the most uplifting and positive passages I have ever read. Take care, and be assured that my thoughts are with you during this very difficult time.

Rob Carnie - Moose Jaw, SK: An absolute pleasure to work with during our years together on "Warriors Hockey on 800 CHAB".  We'll miss Rick and remember him fondly.

Darren Steinke - Medicine Hat, AB: Hey Denise, I hope you are doing well in this difficult time. Sorry to hear of Rick's passing. I have missed him on the WHL beat these past two years. I always looked forward to our visits back when I covered the P.A. Raiders, and made trips down to Moose Jaw. I am proud to consider him a friend. Having been in Medicine Hat the last four years covering the Tigers, I think about Rick often in gutting through covering that WHL Eastern Conference championship series, which the Warriors won. I wish we would have been able to work at the same paper together. I plan to be at the celebration of life on Saturday. I will wear my Winnipeg Jets golf shirt. We both loved that team. Rick was a great man.

Al Bromley - Moose Jaw, SK: Moose Jaw Soccer, junior and high school curling and amateur sports in general owe a debt of gratitude to Rick. We in Moose Jaw have been so lucky to have a sports editor so dedicated to the athletic youth of our city.  I can't remember how many times contacting the Times Herald and hearing Rick's friendly voice at the other end say, "sure Al no problem...we'll get that in for you." Here's my chance to say thank-you Rick, you are awesome!

Stewie - Moose Jaw: Whether it was t-ball or the Warriors, Rick always gave the coverage that the athletes deserved.  He loved Moose Jaw, and Moose Jaw loved him.  I am going to miss the annual Christmas wish list that was looked for every year. Rick you still owe me a couple more favours.  Will see you one day and collect my wishes.  Rest in Peace.

Marilyn & Asa Logan - Victoria, TX: Denise, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time.  We had the pleasure of meeting Rick and his dad, at Bryan and Shannon's wedding.  May there be comfort in knowing friends are here for you and they share in your sorrow.

Brian and Gwen Montague and family - Moose Jaw, SK: Rick and I coached little league together for several years and I and my family will always have great memories of our many hours on the ball diamond with him. He was always good to the players and we had a lot of fun with our ball teams. Rick's journalistic talents were evident in his cogent and entertaining sports editorials. He had big city newspaper talent but chose to stay in Moose Jaw. He will be sadly missed. Our sincerest condolences to Denise and all Rick's family.

Nelson Bennett - Richmond, B.C.: Rick struck me as the kind of sports writer who could have easily ended up working with a large daily somewhere, but Moose Jaw was his home, and the Times-Herald was lucky to have such a talented writer and editor. There were many nights when Rick and I burned the midnight oil, writing well past midnight (often after we had snuck off to the Royal for a couple of beers). Just last year, we lost Scott Bonnell, another a former Times-Herald reporter and editor and good friend of Rick's. I can picture the both of them right now in the Afterlife in front of a big screen TV, drinking beer and talking sports. I will miss them both.

Karen - Regina SK:  Rick, you still owe me a beer in regards to the Riders winning a Grey Cup this millennium.  Miss your smile and sense of humour no matter how warped it could get.  If you do anymore hockey commentary up there make sure you wear your glasses, makes you look smarter then the refs!  PC
