VERNA (MAXINE) CRISTO

(Video Tribute)

Maxine passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at Moose Jaw Union Hospital with her family by her side.  Maxine was born on August 5, 1931 in Central Butte. She grew up on the family farm near Central Butte and took her schooling at Osceola School and Rolling Prairie School. She married Marvin Hallborg on October 16, 1951. They farmed in the Halvorgate District. They had four children: Barry, Calvin, Milton and Brenda. Marvin passed away April 6, 1972. Maxine later met Sam Cristo and was married August 27, 1977. They lived in Moose Jaw where they enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, bowling and enjoyed many holidays together. Since Sam’s retirement they joined the Moose Jaw Camping Club and enjoyed many camping trips, making many life – long friends. Grandchildren were often included on these trips. Maxine had many talents including cooking and her beautiful handiwork in paper tole, crocheting, tatting, knitting, sewing, and quilting.  Her family always treasured the many beautiful gifts that she made for them. Maxine’s favorite time of the year was Christmas and she made it special for each member of her family.  Maxine always welcomed everyone into her home with a hug and a kiss. Maxine is predeceased by her parents Oscar and Pauline Peterson, her first husband Marvin Hallborg, sons Barry and Calvin; brothers Gordon, Orvil, Arnold, Vern, Allan and Claire; sisters Kay Osaduik and Eileen Braaten.  In passing she leaves to mourn her loving husband Sam, son Milton (Gina) of Chaplin, daughter Brenda Sims (Barry) of Chaplin, daughters-in-law Wanda Hallborg of Moose Jaw and Sherry Hallborg of Chaplin, nine grandchildren, Jeremy, Lynette (Blair Kotz), Shannon (Lee Pearson), Curtis, Tricia, Melanie, Tina (Kevin Liebaert), Christopher and Michael and three great-grandchildren, Luke, Kaitlyn and Danika; brother Nubie Peterson; sisters Eleanor (Frank) Guckert, Marline (Zenen) Parfenuik, Carol (Joe) McGregor; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends. The Funeral Service will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Friday, May 4, 2007 at 2:00 pm. Reverend Doug Shepherd will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends Thursday evening 7 – 9 pm at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2360 2nd Ave., Regina, S4R 1A6, would be appreciated.  In living memory of Maxine, a tree has been planted in Wakamow Valley by W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Home.
