VERN CALDWELL |
|
EDGAR VERNON “VERN" CALDWELL of Moose Jaw, formerly of Holdfast, passed away peacefully April 29, 2007, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born July 10, 1922 in Moose Jaw. Vern loved the land and all aspects of farming. His love of farming came from an early age growing up on the farm, as his grandparents had come to Saskatchewan in 1903 and began the legacy of the Caldwell farming operations. As a testament to the pioneers a road has been named after the family, Caldwell Road. Keeping with tradition, Vern’s son Morley continues to carry on the family farm. Vern helped with the farm, for it was his passion until 2005. He was a World War II Veteran working as a Dispatch Rider and overseas he fought with the 83rd Company. He was a member of the Holdfast United Church, an avid member of the sports in Holdfast, a member of the Cosmo Club, and a season ticket holder of the Moose Jaw Warriors until 2006. Vern enjoyed his friends, joining them for coffee, playing cards, and being social. He was very well known and loved by all those that met him. Predeceased by his parents, Allen and Floss Caldwell, an aunt, Beverly Caldwell and husband (Paul Searcy), and uncle, Rex Caldwell. Vern will be very sadly missed by his wife of fifty-four years, Isobel; sons: Tom (Vicky) and Morley; grandsons: Ryan and Allen, sister, Elaine (Caldwell) Myrah and her husband Wes, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A private family graveside service will be held. For those so wishing, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Moose Jaw Multiplex Fund. In living memory of Vernon, a tree has been planted in Wakamow Valley by W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Home. |

Guest Book Jack & Bev Mohr - Moose Jaw: So sorry to hear of Vern's passing. I used to have coffee with Vern quite often and enjoyed the visits about hockey & sports with Vern & Ralph. I am sure you have wonderful memories of Vern and am sure you will treasure them always. Bryce Burns - Esterhazy, SK: Will always remember spending time at the farm as a kid. Uncle Vern will be missed. Take care Aunt Isobel and family. We are saddened with you and offer our condolences. Love Bryce, Alana, Parker & Ryder Burns Jim and Celeste Wolfe - Holdfast, Sk: As a pre-school child the towering stature of Vern scared me. Dad could do nothing to protect himself from being carried out the door at a party at the house of Jack Dennis, and there was nothing I could do to help to save Dad. Later years I got the impression that Vern carried Dad out in a friendly tussle to have him sample some "home brew". As I got older Vern became more appreciated by me as a gentle man, and good neighbor. He has been and will be missed by the entire community. Sincere condolences Jim & Celeste Wolfe |
