FRED DURFEY

(Video Tribute)

Fred Durfey of Holdfast, SK and formerly of Tugaske, Darmody, and Mortlach passed away peacefully on Friday, April 14, 2006 at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital after a short battle with cancer.  Fred was born on April 26, 1930 in Mortlach. He married Hilda Wolf on December 6, 1957 and they lived in Mortlach, Darmody, and Tugaske. After Hilda’s passing, Fred moved to Holdfast. Fred was an excellent athlete, competing in hockey, baseball, and curling.  He took great pride in his 35 year career with the RM of Eyebrow, but his greatest joy was his wife and family.  Fred and Hilda enjoyed many years of camping and fishing with friends on Diefenbaker Lake.  Fred was predeceased by his wife, Hilda (1996); his parents, Ernest and Josephine Durfey; his mother and father-in-law, Daniel and Emilie Wolf; brothers-in-law, Albert Wolf, Oscar Wolf, Walter Wolf, Bill McHolm; a sister-in-law, Edna McHolm; a niece, Linda Wolf,  and two nephews, David Walker and Corey Coghlan. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Shelley (Ron) Harms - Holdfast; Sherry (Bill) Hook - Moose Jaw; Cameron (Tammy) Durfey - Moose Jaw and his grandchildren, Jeff, Tyler and Jana Harms, Jennisa and Kimberley Hook, and Brendon and Travis Durfey.  He is also survived by his only sister, Marg (Ted) Ward, brothers-in-law Eddie (Sim) Wolf, Alvin (Phyllis) Wolf and sister-in-law Elsie Ferguson as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. We, Fred’s children, would like to thank all of you for the many visits, calls and good wishes over the last few months. Dad appreciated them more than you can know. The Funeral Service will be held at Minto United Church, 1036 Seventh Ave.NW., on Wednesday April 19, 2006 at 1:30 pm.  Della Ferguson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Holdfast and District First Responders, Holdfast, S0G 2H0, The Canadian Cancer Society 61B Ross St.W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2, or to a charity of one’s choice, would be appreciated.  In living memory of Fred, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Home.
