In
sorrow, the Davies family announces the passing of their beloved
George on Friday, August 11th 2006 at the age of 82. He was a
wonderful husband to Mary and a much loved father of George Jr.
and daughter Katherine (Richard); his grandchildren Alisha, Joshua
and Elijah dearly mourn his loss. George was born and raised in Moose Jaw
and proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII. George was
employed at the Liquor Board for over twenty-five years. George's
hands assisted to build the St. Michael's Church and the S.S.W.A.
building. As an active church member, he was on the Vestry at St.
Michael's Church and was a greeter at St. Aidan. His passion was
nature and conservation and his lifetime encompassed many
accomplishments in these fields. He spent many years as a Director
of the South Saskatchewan Wildlife Association and on the board of
the Wakamow Valley Authority. His many projects included the
repopulation of the wild turkey, the planting of thousands of oak
trees through out the city and province and the Wakamow Valley
reclamation project. George pioneered the conservation of the
burrowing owl population for which he traveled to
England
's Buckingham
Palace
to receive a conservation award from Prince Philip. In
celebration of George's life a memorial service will be held at
St. Aidan Anglican Church Wednesday, August 16th at 2:00 pm. The
family welcomes the community to W.J.Jones and Son Funeral Home
for a time of visitation Tuesday, August 15th 7
-9pm.Memorialization will follow at the Rosedale cemetery. Funeral Rites will
be conducted by the Royal Canadian Legion Moose Jaw Branch #59.
In living memory of George, a tree will be planted in Wakamow
Valley
by W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Home.
