HECTOR BARBER

HECTOR GEORGE BARBER passed away with family by his side on May 23, 2006 at the age of 93. He was born August 6, 1912 at Archive, Saskatchewan and was the oldest of Harry and Mary Barber’s eight children. Hector served in World War II, contracted TB, and was sent to Fort San. At the time of retirement he worked at Patterson Motors. He married Ruby Wells on April 8, 1942 at St.George’s Church in Moose Jaw. Hec will be remembered for his teasing ways and for his great love of his family.  In his early years he enjoyed sports and had a passion for horses. Hector especially liked to teach his grandchildren and great-grandchildren his hand pantomime games.  Predeceased by his parents; his brothers: Les, Bob and Jack, sister, Mag Symenuk; brothers-in-law: Eric Wells, Phil Marshall, Al Hayes and Stout Johnson; sisters-in-law: Olive Hayes, Gertie Barber, and Ev Barber.  Hector leaves to mourn his wife of sixty-four years, Ruby and their three children: Vicki (George) Berger – Calgary, Garry (Joanne) Barber – Moose Jaw and Ken (Christine) Barber – Calgary; grandchildren: Doug (Brenda) Berger, Sherry (Rob) Bickford and Steve (Kathy) Berger – all of Calgary; Charity (Darren) Jones – Moose Jaw, Tanya (Brad) Gaida – Calgary; Kelly Barber – Vancouver, Lindsey (Jason) Ross, Karlie (Fred) Neal – all of Moose Jaw; ten great-grandchildren and one on the way. He is also survived by a sister Isa Johnson – Moose Jaw; brothers: Mac (Greta) Barber – Saskatoon, and Gord (Monica) Barber – Armstrong, BC; brother-in-law, John Symenuk; sisters-in-law: Agnes Barber and Dorothy Wells – all of Moose Jaw, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Hector’s Life will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. in the W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw.  Pastor Marvin Seaborg will officiate. Private family memorialization will take place at Sunset Cemetery at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saskatchewan Lung Association, 1231 – 8th St. E., Saskatoon, S7H 0S5. In living memory of Hector, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Home.
