BETTE DEVINE

Bette Jean Devine (Ford), passed away peacefully August 27, 2005 in Moose Jaw. Bette was born September 24, 1921 near Gray, SK. She married Don Devine in Regina in 1944 and they later moved to the Devine family farm near Lake Valley, SK where they raised their four children. Bette was always a busy woman, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor.  She taught Sunday School and was a life time member of the Lake Valley UCW, instilling a lasting spiritual dimension in her children.  Bette was active in the community, introduced her children to sports, music, and social responsibilities.  She loved her grandchildren and formed a strong, loving relationship with each one of them.  With the constant love and support of her mother, the Ford families, the Devine families and many friends, Bette was able to endure some of life’s most difficult challenges. She was most grateful to all of you.  Bette is predeceased by her parents Fred and Bessie Ford, her husband Don Devine, son Randy (Colleen), brother and sister-in-law Roy and June Ford, and two nephews, Gary Ford (Anita), and Glen Ford (Donna).  Bette will be lovingly remembered by her children: Grant (Chantal) Devine, Judy (Wes) Vaughan, and Ben Devine;  grandchildren:  Michelle (David) Van Keppel of Indiana; Monique (Todd) Degelman of Saskatoon;  David (Tracey) Devine of Winnipeg; John Devine of Calgary; Camille Devine of Regina; Jodi Vaughan (Jordan Hardy) of Regina; James (Tiffany) Vaughan of Langdon, AB; Ryan Devine of Regina; Dana (Mike) Filipchuk of Edmonton; nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bette’s family wish to thank Dr. Wigmore and the staff at the Union Hospital, Ina Grafton, and Extendicare, Moose Jaw for their great care. A special thank you to Marlene Smith (nurse and family member) for her strength and devotion to our mother. The Funeral Service will be held at Minto United Church, Thursday September 1, 2005 at 2:00 pm.  John Carley will officiate. Cremation will follow with memorialization at a later date at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Neo Natal Centre at the Regina General Hospital, 1140 14th Ave., Regina, S4R 4C6, or the Neo Natal Centre at the Royal University Hospital, 103 Hospital Drive, Saskatoon, S7N 0W8, would be appreciated. In living memory of Bette, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Home.

Bob and Kathy Crang - Westbank, BC: Dear Judy, Ben, Grant & families, Sending you all our love at this time of the loss of your lovely mom. She was so very proud of all of you, & your gentle care these past years have been her life line. Such wonderful memories of Bette & her love of fun & a little mischief, always reflected with a twinkle in  her gorgeous blue eyes !!!  As  a child, I always remember Bette's love of white nursing shoes & the comfort they gave her daily. When they got to the point of discomfort, she would simply cut out the leather to  accommodate her foot!!!! I found this most fascinating !!! she was such a great pal to my mother & a great mentor to so many people. She chose the most important career in life- that of a full time mother & grandmother. She realized three generations of family, and took such interest in all. A job well done Bette! We hold you in prayer as you gather today to celebrate Bette's life & legacies. Go gently in your grief & may God's peace sustain you all. our love, Kathy & Bob
