DON CALFAS

Lieutenant Colonel (ret.) Donald Calfas C.D. was born July 20, 1922 in Regina and died October 10, 2005 in Moose Jaw. Don married Betty Bennetton on September 27, 1952.  He was predeceased by his parents Herbert and Gladys, his wife Betty and brother-in-law Gordon Pritchard.  Don leaves to mourn his wife Darlene Dobson; sons Kim (Maggie) Calfas and Buck Calfas; his grandchildren Amber (Tim) Wilk, Serina Calfas (Chris), Stephanie and Christopher Calfas.  He will be missed by Darlene’s children Mark (Tracy) Dobson, Darrell (Rose) Dobson and Debbie (Greg) Thompson and the grandchildren Cody, Katherine and Andrew Thompson, Morgan, Brett and Jacob Dobson.  Don is survived by his sister June Pritchard and nieces Cory (Dave) Rodgers and Krystal (Dean) Wilberger and their families.  Don grew up in Moose Jaw, attended Alexander elementary school, Empire school and Tech High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1942.  Don was associated with the Saskatchewan Dragoons Regimental Association, Royal Canadian Legion, Army, Navy and Air force Veterans, Eagles Club, Knights of Pythias Lodge, was a board member of the Ina Grafton Gage Home. Don spent over 70 years in the Scouting movement.  He mentored many boys over the years. Don owned and ran Buffalo Shell Service for many years and made many friends while there. He was the Commanding Officer of the Saskatchewan Dragoons in 1970 when the Guidon was presented.  Don’s hobbies were fishing and silk screening.  He loved family vacations and movie nights with Darlene. Don held his family in highest regard. They were very dear to him. The Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 14, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. in the W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, Moose Jaw. Reverend Frank Mitchell will officiate.  Interment will take place in the family plot, Rosedale Cemetery. Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites conducted at the chapel by Stan Skrill, Moose Jaw Branch #59.  Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday evening (7-9 p.m.) at the Funeral Home.  Memorials for the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, 268 High Street West, Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 1S8 would be appreciated.  In living memory of Don, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Home.
