DOUG BRUNSDON

Douglas Arthur Brunsdon was born in Moose Jaw on October 3, 1933 and passed away on April 2, 2005. He is predeceased by his wife, Helen (Irwin) who he married in 1958, and his brother Bert. He is survived by his only daughter, Melissa (Rob Garden), his two grandchildren, Jared and Jenna; his fiancee, Anne Chambers; his brother, Al of Swift Current and his sister, Marion of Victoria, BC.  Doug was raised in Assiniboia and began his long time career and love for the railroad in 1951. He retired from Canadian Pacific Railway as a train dispatcher in 1987. Doug will be remembered for his love of nature, animals, birds and his community service work with the Shriners, the Masons, Wakamow Authority, the Canadian Club, Alderman for the Resort Village of South Lake, as well as numerous wildlife causes. Doug had a particular fondness for his cabin at Buffalo Pound Lake, his pets (Babe the dog), a good card game, reading and all the jokes he could absorb. He was a kind man, always ready to lend a helping hand. He loved to travel, but was happiest visiting with friends and family. The Funeral Service will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Thursday April 7, 2005 at 1:30 pm.  Della Ferguson will officiate. Memorialization will take place at Rosedale Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, it would be appreciated if donations could be made in Doug's name to the Lung Association of Saskatchewan, 1231 8th St.E., Saskatoon, S7H 0S5 or the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St.W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2. In living memory of Doug, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Home.

Guest Book

Marg and Don Laing - Moose Jaw, SK: The Laings, along with the rest of the "Third-Friday and Every Sunday Brunch Gang," will really miss Doug's presence, his great sense of fun, his zest for life, and his devotion to Anne Chambers. Doug and Anne made a wonderful couple, and all of us had hoped for them to share some quality years together. Sadly, this was not to be. Our thoughts and blessings to Melissa, Jared and Jenna, and to Anne in this time of loss and of thanks for Doug's life.

Diana Smith - Saskatoon, SK: My deepest sympathies to the family.  May your shared good times and fond memories sustain you.

Larry Shaak - Moose Jaw, SK: As a young lad in Herbert, Sask. Doug recognized my love for all things railroad related. He promptly handed me a yard check book and gave me my first task recording grain car numbers. In time this opened the door to my becoming an agent and operator. His congenial friendly nature and terrific sense of humour touched many. In retirement he always had time to chat as well and our last coffee together along with Moe Zimmerman at the Moose Jaw Co-op is another treasured memory. Doug has now joined the "celestial dispatchers" and no doubt will liven up the place. Deepest condolences to all the family, his fiancé and friends.

Carol Ann Edmonds - Saskatoon, SK: Melissa, my prayers and thoughts are with you and your family at this time.  May your many memories sustain you during this period and in the future.

Doug Marr, on behalf of the Moose Jaw Canadian Club: The Members of the Moose Jaw Canadian Club would like to express to the Family their sadness at Doug's passing.  He was a long time member!  His friendly smile and supportive interest in the Club were always most appreciated.

Ken and Marliss Evans - Weyburn, SK: Melissa, Jared & Jenna: It is with a heavy heart as Marliss & I reminisce about your father and grandpa. Marliss & I remember the beautiful yard that he & Helen would somehow maintain in spite of being away at the lake all summer. Visits to Brunsdon's were initiated by a growl from Babe, then a "hello Kenny & Marliss!" from Doug. Your Dad & Grandpa was truly a congenial man who enjoyed meeting people and always made them welcome to his home. For all the times as Marliss & I invaded the Brunsdon home or cabin with 2 young boys in hand we were always welcomed & Doug would feed the masses. As we knew Doug, he was a grandpa through & through. Off to Wakamow or the lake with a dog & his grandkids in tow. Jared & Jenna were very fortunate to have such a loving grandfather & they will have a lifetime of fond memories
of him.  Mel, we both want to extend our deepest condolences to you. These past few years have been difficult at times as our parents age yet we move on without them but not forgotten in our hearts or thoughts.     Ken, Marliss, Eric & Cameron
