GEORGE CARNIE

February 13, 1924 April 19, 2004

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father. Born the son of Ethel and Charles Carnie in Milden, Saskatchewan, George lived a productive and happy 80 years.  After some growing up in Milden, George and the Carnie family moved to Regina where he attended Connaught School and Central Collegiate where he played football, baseball, and tennis for the “Gophers”.  When Dad turned 18 in 1942, he proudly joined the Royal Canadian Air Force for the duration of World War II.  George once again settled in Regina after the War and started a brief, but rewarding career in the theatre business.  He managed the Capitol Theatre in Regina and theatres in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Valley City, North Dakota, before embarking on a long and successful career as an insurance broker. George married the love of his life, Doris in 1951. They were married for nearly 36 years, separated only by our Mother’s death in 1987.  Dad’s passions included hunting and golfing.  He competed in many Saskatchewan Golf Association “Senior” Championships where, in recent years, he was a two-time Provincial Legends Champion.  George served the community in many ways as a member of the Moose Jaw Rotary Club, the Royal Canadian Legion, and had served as a board member of the Hillcrest Sports Centre and the Moose Jaw Humane Society.  Dad’s greatest passion in life were his four children and 8 grandchildren.  He is predeceased by his father, mother, beloved brothers Gilbert and Ned, step-sister Peggy, and step-brother Jack. George is survived by his loving companion Glenys Strayer; beloved sister, Betty Carnie of Saskatoon;  his four children: Chuck of Regina, Judy (Michael) Lucus of Williams Lake, BC, June (Lawney) Donaldson of Pilot Butte, SK, and Rob (Lisa) of Moose Jaw; grandchildren: Terra and Jerrad Carnie of Regina;  David Lucus of Williams Lake; and Kyle, Leah, Kurt, Cara, and Carla Donaldson of Pilot Butte; and his extended family at Folgizan Agencies where he continued to work until his passing.

Forever in our hearts

A Celebration of George’s Life will be held at the Hillcrest Apostolic Church, 1550 Main Street North, on Friday April 23, 2004 at 2:00 pm. Della Ferguson will be the Celebrant.
