PHIL BROOKS

Phillip Lockhart Brooks, of Moose Jaw, passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at the age of 87.  Phillip was born on March 18, 1917 in Aneroid, Sask. He married Muriel Williams on January 3, 1942. He served in the RCAF during World War II from 1941 to 1945 and was stationed in England as a mechanic working on Lancaster bombers.  After the War he and Muriel moved to Moose Jaw where he worked for the CPR for 35 years as a fireman and later as an engineer.  Phil loved his family and had great fun at the many gatherings of his extended family. He was a cheerful, happy person with a big smile and an easy laugh.  He loved to make fun of anything silly that happened to him if it would make others laugh with him.  He always made himself available to help his many friends and family. Phil led an active lifestyle and enjoyed swimming, golfing, biking, cross-country skiing and walking until shortly before his death. He also enjoyed quiet time with music and reading.  His great love was traveling.  He and Muriel explored many parts of the world together.  Phil is predeceased by his wife Muriel in 2002; his parents, Milton and Maud Brooks; his brothers, Hobart, Chap and Joseph; his sisters, Miriam, Lucille, Monica and Harriet.  He is survived by his children: Robert Brooks (Holly Roy) of N.Vancouver, BC and Beverley Brooks (Max Baldwin) of Moose Jaw; grandchildren: Daniel Brooks, Colleen Baldwin (Aage André Weider), Graham Baldwin (Nicole Pyett) and Teresa Baldwin; sister June Ruehs, sisters-in-law Gertie Green and Ethel Brooks; several nieces and nephews.  A Celebration of Phil’s Life will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Saturday June 12, 2004 at 10:30 am.   Della Ferguson will officiate. Memorialization will take place at Sunset Cemetery. Memorials to the Sask. Heart & Stroke Foundation, 2360 2nd Ave., Regina, S4R 1A6, or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St.W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2, would be appreciated.  In living memory of Phil, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Home.
