Irving
James Gosling, now of
Moose Jaw
and long-time resident of
Parkbeg
,
Sask.
died
Wednesday, May 7,2003
in
Moose Jaw
Union
Hospital
.
Irving
was born
Jan. 3, 1917
and lived all his life loving the
land and the wonder of it’s harvest. He was raised on the
Gosling homestead northwest of Parkbeg beside
Gosling
Lake
and worked the land until his
retirement into the
village
of
Parkbeg
. He took pride in developing his property, planting trees,
Saskatoon
and Chokecherry bushes and
nurturing his pride and joy, a pear tree which last summer yielded
an abundant crop.
Irving
served overseas during the Second
World War and was part of the liberation of
Holland
during 1945. He was an avid
curler, travelling with his teams to many bonspiels throughout the
area. He was also a devoted fisherman in winter and summer, and a
hunter in the fall. He loved wildlife and nature and was happiest
when he was among the creatures of the land. He believed in
supporting his community and was a ready source of financial aid
for worthy projects and individuals in Parkbeg and area.
Irving
was an active member of the
Saskatchewan Wheal Pool, the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation and
the Chaplin branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was always
willing to help his neighbours and valued friendships that thrived
on a handshake. His sense of humour, his knowledge of world
affairs and his ability to spin stories of the past endeared him
to a wide audience, including the morning coffee club at the Moose
Jaw Co-op cafeteria.
Irving
was predeceased by his father,
James Gosling, and his mother, Ruth Garrett; sisters Charlotte,
Pola and Oriole; nephews, Bill, Melvin and Derrick; and several
uncles including Casey Steele and Harold Davey of

Davey of Moose Jaw; nephews, Clifford (Diane), Pat, Robert and
Corbin, and niece Carla; brother-in-law, Roger; cousins, Joyce
(Ron), Marlene, Roscoe (Marcene), and Georgina (Byron) as well as
