DOREEN DAILEY

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Doreen Dailey, October 10, 2003, in Moose Jaw, Sask. Doreen was born Muriel Maud Doreen Jeffrey in 1915 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She grew up and was educated in Regina, Sask. and over the years contributed greatly to the business and cultural communities in Regina. Doreen attended Connaught school in west Regina and obtained office and secretarial training at Scott Collegiate and at Balfour Technical School when it first opened. Doreen had a varied business career in the City, at one time or another with Smeeds Moving and Storage and with the law firm of Alan Embery and Associates. Importantly, Doreen was for many years the Corporate Secretary at IPSCO. In fact, Doreen was the company's first employee and helped develop IPSCO from its conceptual stage through its early days as Prairie Pipe and into it's emergence as a major industrial company in Canada. She could tell many stories of the companies' formative days, including the first blush of an idea which occurred around a table in the Assiniboia Club. As an executive of Buffalo Oil Co. and President of Desk and Derrick organization, Doreen contributed to the growth and maturation of the women employees and principals involved in the oil industry in Western Canada and the U.S. She travelled extensively throughout the western states and Canada supporting the industry and its female participants. Regina benefited from her caring and her energy when Doreen was chosen as the first woman to serve as Chairperson of the United Appeal in the city. One of her life's loves was the time she spent assisting in the early development of Buffalo Days. She enjoyed every social event, decked out in period dress and dancing till the late hours. Doreen also served on the committee supporting Rick Hanson's World Journey. Doreen was widowed in 1955 with the premature passing of her husband Phillip. Her parents Sydney and Minnie Jeffrey as well as brother Alan and sister Audrey have all passed on before. Doreen is survived and remembered loving by sons Alan (Anita), of Moose Jaw, and Patrick (Verna), of San Diego, and by grandchildren Phillip, Sean, Patrick, Erin, and Colleen and by six great-grandchildren. As well, she will be missed by two nieces and two nephews in the U.S. A Memorial of Doreen's Life will be held at St. Mary's Anglican Church, 3337 15th Ave. Regina, on Wednesday, October 15, at 1:30 PM.  Reverend Claude Schroeder will officiate. Her ashes will be interred by the family at Riverside Memorial. In lieu of f1owers, donations to the Saskatchewan Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. In living memory of Doreen, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Home.
