RUSSEL CHECKLEY

In loving memory of RUSSEL EDGAR CHECKLEY. Russel passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2003 in Moose Jaw with his family by his side. Russel was born November 8, 1924 in the Kelstern district.  He was a World War II Veteran and a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion.  After more than forty years of employment at Saskatchewan Minerals, he retired in Chaplin, Saskatchewan.  Russel was predeceased by his father William Checkley, mother Maude Checkley-Lafferty, his step-father Joseph Lafferty, his sister, Aleita Stinson and brothers Irvin Checkley, James Checkley, William Checkley and Kenneth Checkley.  Russel is survived by his wife Jean Checkley, sons Bill and Craig, daughters Donna (Allan) Steinhauer, Bonnie (Barry) Leisle, Brenda (Grant) Osaduik, Lynette Wallace and Shauna (David) Sunstrum; grandchildren Shane (Dione), Kari, Shelan, Amy, Michael, Derek, Robert, Neal, Deanne, Anita, Chrisy and Douglas; great-grandchildren Justine, Joel and Samantha; brothers Stanley (Shirley) and Ross (Betty); sisters Vi Mason, Lilas (Mel) Bitz as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 3, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chaplin Community Complex.  Sandra Sellars will officiate. Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites will be conducted by Roscoe Steele.  Interment will take place in the Chaplin Cemetery at a later date. Memorials to the Palliative Care Unit, c/o Moose Jaw Union Hospital, 455 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 1H3 or to a charity of one’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.  In living memory of Russel, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by Prairie Memorial Funeral Home.
